Observation notes: Seen at MacCrae Lake trail head south of Revelstoke, British Columbia.
N50 49.931 W117 57.241 at 1:00 pm July 1 2015. Elevation 1771 m. Parking lot is in high sub-alpine forest. Note my car's tire to give scale.
They were very interested in the damp sand/gravel of the forestry road. There were a huge number of them (hundreds?) on a 10 meter stretch of road. Continued to see them for another 100 m down the road. Sunny hot day, no breeze at that time. Two days later on July 3 my husband saw the same kind of moth, similar elevation, on Hermit trail in Glacier National Park, British Columbia. Also a hot day. Also many of them.
