Observation notes: Dave Patton and I observed one individual perching on mostly shaded grass in a wet meadow adjacent to a patch of riparian forest and some open longleaf pine forest in the Nature Conservancy's Abita Creek Flatwoods Preserve. The blurred flight shot shows the skipper almost doing a backflip during takeoff; its back is to the left, its head turned a little to the left, and the top of the forewing is visible in the downstroke.
