Greenish Blue
Plebejus saepiolus

Observation date: July 04, 2011
Submitted by: tirvine2020
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This butterfly was found in a meadow along with many other butterflies on a sunny day. Wingspan was about 3cm. On hind wings, although not easily visible in the photo, the dark spots each had a small circle of white around them.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: This appears to be a Greenish Blue. Though the two species are very similar, the Boisduval’s Blue has nearly perfectly circular spots that are heavily rimmed with white, often so much so that the black inside is barely present. The spots on this individual look more irregularly shaped and not heavily rimmed in white, which much better matches the Greenish Blue.
