Observation notes: More weary than most years when we look for these also this trip is several weeks later. Hoping to find a female/ There said to have wider bands Maybe I need to look in Emmil and Emmil Southern California butterfly Book? Do you have enough of a series to be able to Id weather this one is a female? I also looked in butterflies of America at ones they have though very limited series! Looks like small differences in patterns but size would be a big factor this one flew away when it wanted to measure it! Pleasant windy most of the day but not to strong. cool mid eighties signs of summer rain as some things were blooming. Buckwheat and several other plants blooming and fresh growth even leaves on some Cat Claw ouch yes they still have thorns! sky Clear no recorded rain this summer in Borrego Desert State park. The rain gages missed these scattered monsoons as is quite often the case in this very dry area!

Coordinator notes: I've got a series of about 20, but identify the sex in a female? Not from a photo of a living individual. I think they look much the same color as males, just larger. In Giant Skippers, females are hard to come by-Ken Davenport
