Observation notes: This butterfly was perched on top of a White Wood Aster (Eurybia divaricata) plant in the sun. If I got to close it would fly away, but then return. But finally it flew away and did not return. It will be back finding another perch in the sun. That area is below a hole in the tree canopy. So the butterfly will likely move once that area becomes shaded later in the day.
