Observation notes: Popped out of the grass flying weakly to a rock where it sat while I photographed it. I have never knowingly seen a C. meadii before but I suspect that this is correct.
No other butterflies seen at all in the canyon - even though there are more flowers and "verdancy" in Hay Canyon than I have ever seen before. Perhaps it was just the early morning hour? I arrived at 8:46 and left about an hour later traveling a little over a mile round trip.

Coordinator notes: no doubt about the ID and congrats on a new species for you! The Datil Range is fun, though a bit rough. Your experience of spending field time under ideal conditions and seeing virtually nothing is one that has been shared by me and others this summer. My theory? the vegetation comes back quickly but their herbivores take more time.
