Woodland Skipper
Ochlodes sylvanoides

Observation date: August 15, 2022
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Several of these were at the bottom of a small canyon in a riparian area; stream nearby, lots of willows and late-season wildflowers. Moist. Seemed very bright orange/colorful for a skipper but underwings lacked strong markings, lacked white spots / seemed mostly solid yellowish orange.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: This is the Woodland Skipper and you have both sexes photographed (top one is the male...the other three look like the same female?). Color of the Delaware Skipper is much light yellow in color, the underside of the hindwings is uniformly buff and there are no spots as you can see in a couple of your shots. Also, the DS flies earlier usually...early July and to about the first of August (worn then). Mike
