Western White
Pontia occidentalis

Observation date: July 17, 2022
Submitted by: Christian.Nunes
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I feel pretty comfortable calling this Pontia occidentalis, but I'm erring on the side of caution. Any help with the ID would be appreciated. Visiting lance-leaf stonecrop on a hilltop.

Coordinator notes: Female Western White (or Western Peak White)...very black and complete forewing markings makes it unmistakable. ....On thing with Eff's dairy...perhaps Andy mentioned (?)...Don abbreviates his wife's name M.J. (Mary Jane). I don't think that I knew that she accompanied and actively collected with Don. I knew both personally and attended her funeral service (she passed away from breast cancer). That hit Don pretty hard and he moved to Ohio shortly afterward. They had one son (Jim) whom, last I knew, lives in Montana. Have not heard from him for many years. Mike
