Observation notes: This is the 2nd time I have found this species in the Missoula area. This caterpillar was on Pentstemon wilcoxii, in a patch of blooming plants that was about 5 feet across. This was the only caterpillar I could find in this patch of flowers. It was a dark, cloudy, relatively cool day (around 60 degrees F.). The caterpillar was resting, not actively feeding, but fresh frass was visible on the leaf below it. This was maybe 2 miles from my 2006 observation.
