Macaria austrinata (Ferguson, 2008)

Subfamily: Ennominae
Identification: Yellow postmedial band is slightly irregular, often interrupted and not of uniform width. There is usually some dark gray shading on both sides of yellow band often being a dark wedge shaped spot on the outer side of the band.
Wing Span: ♀ 1.1-1.6 cm. ♂ 1.1-1.5 cm.
Life History:
Flight: April to June.
Caterpillar Hosts: Redberry buckthorn, Rhamnus crocea.

Habitat:
Range: California, from Los Angeles and Ventura counties to Baja. There is some overlapping with Macaria guenearia in the northern part of the range. (2), (1)

Taxonomy Notes: Macaria austrinata (Ferguson, 2008) n. sp., MONA Fascicle 17.2, p. 54. This species was described in the genus Speranza which is treated as a synonym of Macaria in Sihvonen & Skou (2015) following Scoble & Krüger (2002).
