Pine Powder Moth
Eufidonia convergaria

Observation date: June 07, 2024
Submitted by: SoupTownMoths
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: On June 7, 2024, I was on the Millennium Trail in Superior, WI (Partly sunny, 73 degrees) when I saw a small white butterfly - slightly larger than a Blue, and flew similarly - at the edge of where the paved trail intersected with a trail into the woods. I followed it into the woods and watched it land twice but managed only one distant photo, attached here. You need to zoom in - it's resting on a leaf just right of the mud streaks. I briefly saw it with wings closed, and in profile looked like a White/Marble with some spots/patterning on the outer wings. At rest, with wings open, the coloration doesn't match with anything I see in my butterfly guide. I don't think it's a moth.
