Dun Skipper
Euphyes vestris

Observation date: June 20, 2024
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I'm not sure on this one. My first thought was dun, but the wings seem a bit dark. I also considered orange-headed roadside, but the rusty color on its head seems a little washed out, and the wings are a rich brown, but I couldn't make out a bluish sheen. I'm leaning toward dun, but have a sneaking suspicion I've missed something.

Coordinator notes: your instincts were right. However, our version of Dun Skipper, subspecies kiowah, was recently boosted to full species status. BAMONA does not recognize this yet, but when it does this will be Kiowah Skipper, Euphyes kiowah, which is how we have it in BONM.
