Orange Sulphur
Colias eurytheme

Observation date: August 05, 2024
Submitted by: ncrosbyrd
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I don't know if there's a way to tell female Orange Sulphur from female Clouded Sulphur in the white form but we saw Orange males at this location.

Coordinator notes: Your ID is correct...female form alba...usually the forewings on female eurytheme are more square in shape with a straight outer wing margin and sharper wingtip (males also)...especially the summer flight...and they tend to be bigger and more sharply maculated on a plain, (uniformly colored) bright wing surface (yellow, or greenish in albino females) on the underside. Without pigment to color the wings yellow-orange, that energy goes into egg production and albino females will lay many more eggs than one with a color. Mike
