Great Purple Hairstreak
Atlides halesus

Observation date: September 24, 2011
Submitted by: jlmichael
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Kept the wings up tight most of the time and swishing tails together. However, once the wings opened and I saw a flash of vibrant blue as barely visible on first photo No Swallowtail that I know of in Oklahoma looks like this. The tails were turned out. I believe she was laying eggs on the Climbing Hempweed (Misania scandens) as one of the photos shows an enlarged and organ hind section. Photo two.
