Yellow-striped Armyworm Moth
Spodoptera ornithogalli (Guenée, 1852)


Family: Noctuidae
Subfamily: Amphipyrinae
Identification: Forewing brown with bluish gray shading inside am. line and near apex and anal angle. Oblique yellowish shade line extends from costa across orbicular spot and beyond vein Cu, almost to pm. line. White mark below reniform spot forks to form a sideways Y. Lower median area dark gray or orange-yellow (in form "flavimedia"). Hindwing translucent white with blackish veins and terminal line.
Wing Span: 3.2-4.4 cm.
Life History: Larva is named Yellow-striped Armyworm or Cotton Cutworm and can be a pest.
Flight: April-November. Several broods.
Caterpillar Hosts: Many low plants and crops including cotton, clover, grasses, potato, and tobacco.
