Observation notes: Nectaring on Common Fiddleneck (Amsinckia intermedia) at the Claremont Colleges' Bernard Field Station in an area vegetated with a mixture of non-native grasses (largely Bromus diandrus, Bromus madritensis ssp. rubens, and Avena barbata) and native sage scrub annuals and perennials, including Distant Phacelia (Phacelia distans) and Deerweed (Acmispon glaber) in addition to the fiddlenecks. Weather was unseasonably warm (88°F), sunny with a few high, thin clouds, and light wind (2-5 mph).
