Observation notes: Many of these caterpillars are everywhere at my house. They have been for years. I am in the central coast and I spotted this little guy underneath an oak tree so I put him back up there. These two pictures are of the same caterpillar on the same tree. I have spotted some others of these guys right underneath my other oaks. When I pick them up, they curl up into a tight, defensive curl. I only find them in the afternoon, during late spring and early summer, and when it's clear.
