Half-white Carpet Moth
Mesoleuca gratulata

Observation date: April 20, 2016
Submitted by: Vickie
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: M. gratulata was perched on the base of an long ago uprooted tree, occasionally moving its wings. It was warm and sunny. A Pacific Wren had two nest cavities in the same root network, which is about 2 meters in diameter. This is a heavily forested area, used by bikes, walkers, and runners. It is part of a network of old volcanic activity, which includes Mount Tabor, so is also a water storage butte, with underground reservoirs. This moth was identified for me by the Pacific Northwest Moths organization. I saw that Butterflies and Moths of North America does not have a photo in the image gallery. Please do use mine.
