Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
Papilio glaucus

Observation date: June 01, 2016
Submitted by: Deb Roe-Raymond
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: trying to determine if this is a Canadian Swallowtail, or Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
Status: Resident
Verified by: Harry Pavulaan
Verified date: December 26, 2017
Coordinator notes: This is tentatively assigned to Papilio glaucus pending further research and DNA analysis. This is actually an undescribed cryptic sibling population allied with Papilio appalachiensis. In R.I. it flies in late spring, following the earlier P. glaucus and P. canadensis (rare) flights. Future DNA work may well place this as P. appalachiensis.
