Observation notes: This moth was on the underside of a split rail fence at Cheaha State Park near Delta, Alabama. Because it was so backlit, my wife Pat held a gray towel (doesn't everyone have a towel in the trunk?) up to give me a good background. The moth measured about 6 3/4 inches tip to tip. I did not disturb it. I was intrigued by the face on the back of the head. The weather was muggy, about 85 F, and mostly cloudy.
