Observation notes: Early evening, mostly sunny with a few clouds, about 70 degrees, light breeze. The butterfly was clinging to the bark of this tree (maybe oak?), beside a gravel path bordered by a field of waist-high weeds on one side, and mature woods on the other. Nearby were goldenrod, joe pye weed, ironweed, milkweed, fleabane, honeysuckle, serviceberry, hawthorne, oak, maple, beech, mixed grassses, ferns.
