Northern Pearly-eye
Enodia anthedon

Observation date: August 26, 2017
Submitted by: Anne Wills
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Sunny, 75 degrees, no breeze, increasing humidity. The butterfly landed on a leaf on the damp ground, and walked a few steps, then stayed still for a minute or so. We had just crossed a wooden foot-bridge across a the marshy upstream end of the small lake, between two steep, forested mountainsides. Nearby were spicebush, oak, beech, maple, white pine, sassafras, redbud, honeysuckle, grapevines, poison ivy, greenbrier, cattails, mixed weeds.
