Coordinator notes: Because of the limited amount of the forewing showing, I was initially unsure if this is Asterocampa celtis or A. leilia. The basal bars on the forewing, a key difference in these species, are almost completely hidden from view. In looking for another unique difference between the two using photos on bugguide.net, I found one in the 2nd submarginal line in from the edge of the hindwing. In A. celtis this line zigzags in and out all along the outer margin of the wing. In A. leila, however, it appears that towards the trailing margin, this line zig-zags much less almost becoming a gentle curve. This characteristic seems consistent in photos on bugguide.net and in A Swift Guide to Butterflies. Given that characteristic, I believe this sighting is A, leilia. SAT
