Observation notes: Sunny but not a particularly warm day. Other skippers in the area were Sachems. Noticed this one was darker. Looking at the pictures confirmed this to be an Umber Skipper. Found them in Mendocino County for the first time this year in May. This is a new location and an apparent second brood for this butterfly. Rarely reported in the country. Didn’t get a great underwing picture.
