Observation notes: Found at a pull-out about 100 feet east of the New River Overlook on HWY 299. The overlook provides a view of the New River colliding with the Trinity River directly below. This area around the overlook (and in rocks above off of Greys Creek Road) often has several species of checkerspot in the springtime. Most other species observed were flower feeding, but this lone Leanira Checkerspot was puddling on the mostly dry ground. 40° 50′ 43.13″ N, 123° 28′ 59.59″ W.
