Tobacco Budworm Moth
Chloridea virescens

Observation date: August 23, 2019
Submitted by: LauraQ
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: found on petunia plant on balcony. There have been two other similar caterpillars found also, though smaller, but without the clear black bumps on back and sides.. Seemed to cause the holes, as seen in petunia leaves here and also in flowers. On leaves were droppings, some small black about poppy seed size, others about 1 mm and tan. Caterpillars are quite sluggish but crawl away when disturbed. Match green of petunia leaves perfectly.
