Observation notes: I saw this the day before on the house siding, such an odd spot, before it was covered over as a pupa, still as a white n red with black caterpillar dangling and moved upward when I touched it (so decided not dead). I have lots of violets below this spot of the house and see lots of these caterpillars around this spot... I also have passionflower vines that they love. The next morning it was covered over with wet looking slime that I presume it was regurgitating. Wish I had thought to take a photo then but it wasn’t pretty. By the time I got home it looked like this, mottled and the coppery points formerly the spiky hairs on the caterpillar were now shining through the pupa, very fascinating- I imagine a chemical reaction. I hope it emerges next weekend when I’m home to see it.
