Observation notes: I was part of an expedition to Churchill, Manitoba with the University of Guelph. While driving towards Thompson, in northern Manitoba, we took a short break near Pisew Falls Provincial Park, where I took these photographs of a very dark Canadian Tiger Swallowtail. I'd never seen one so pale and dark before. In hindsight, I should have collected it. Shortly after taking this shot we loaded back up and finished our drive to Thompson, MB (then continued on to Churchill by rail).
