Observation notes: This moth landed on the screen of our front window around 6 am and is still there as I write this, around noon. We have made an effort not to disturb it, but it is within three feet of our door. Our first-floor apartment, which is a hundred-year-old mishmash of blue-gray aluminum siding, exposed natural rock, and bits of brick all over, opens directly onto the main street/state highway that runs through our little town. The ancient storefronts that line this main thoroughfare are mostly side-by-side, though we have an empty corner lot/yard that adjoins our property. The lot has mostly walnut trees. Our apartment is also located a couple doors down from the tourist attraction of Captain James T. Kirk's Future Birthplace. It seems odd that it chose such a conspicuous, high-traffic place to stay in broad daylight, but we are glad it did--what a fantastic sighting! Today, it is nice, but a bit overcast. No rain, about 77°F.
