Observation notes: We were hiking in Hidden Valley at the Valle Caldera in Sandoval County, NM. The fleabanes, blackeyed susans, and harebells were in full bloom in the grasses along the river. My suggested ID is because my photo looks much like one on Steve Carey's Butterflies of New Mexico on PEEC; that entry gives the subspecies name eurynome for specimens in this area. I only managed one photo but there were many such butterflies about, often landing on the fleabane or the thistle but not sitting for more than a few seconds at a time.
