Observation notes: Sunny warm day. As far as I can research, this is the earliest flight record for Mendocino County. The previous date was 3/11/2018. It is just three days later then the early California record of 2/14/2015 in Sonoma County. This is according to the International Lepidoptera Survey’s Flight Periods of California Butterflies. I have a 2016 copy so records for this butterfly might be outdated.
