Observation notes: I wish I had been able to get photos of this butterfly's dorsal side. The FW's black border bleed-through does seem narrow. Distinct shape to the wings with pointed FW and squared-off HW, strong pink edging and greenish, scaled ventral side. Possible Giant or Scudder's? My understanding is that Giant and Christina aren't found this far south. Also considered Mead's and Queen Alexandra's. I have uploaded a photo of what I'm more confident is a Queen Alexandra's Sulphur from the same location.

Coordinator notes: Mead's Sulphur...looks like may be a female...usually a denizen of arctic tundra but it is not too unusual to find one below timberline when that habitat is close by...females stray off the tundra later in the season and certainly lay eggs where they find suitable hosts. This may well be one of the offspring from such a female the year before. Green underside is much more so than Scudder's Sulphur. Mike
