Observation notes: I am submitting this for clarification, as to whether this is in the range of color variation for a straight Gray Buckeye, or if it might be a Gray/Dark Buckeye hybrid, with the dark coloration and the white line. In the Open Space Visitor garden near Horsetail Milkweed.

Coordinator notes: Drlenee, BAMONA now recognizes Gray and Dark buckeyes. They also made a slot "Junonia sp." for those individuals that show evidence of mixing between the two. Yours looks like a pretty good Gray Buckeye to me. the dorsal ground color does seem a little dark, but that could be due to the angle of light on partly-closed wings. The white bar is pretty typical and the orange in the dorsal hindwing margin area also fits Gray.
