Observation date: April 04, 2023

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: found this butterfly nectaring at the blooming winter jasmine in my back patio; I identify it as a Southern Dogface based on the "dog face" pattern shining through on the forewings, and as a female due to the pointy tip to the forewings and the apparently less sharp "dog face" pattern
Status: Temporary Colonist

Coordinator notes: I think you are correct on all counts. It seems very fresh, probably emerged from a local chrysalis; shockingly early to see a freshly emerged dogface that far north. thanks!
