Pahaska Skipper
Hesperia pahaska

Observation date: June 25, 2023
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: There are noticeable differences between sexes here. The left individual has top and middle spots on ventral hindwing overlapping (green), while the right individual does not...which more resembles Pahaska (which I also believe I saw in the area), but I'm assuming there's no mating across species, so I'm not 100% on this ID. I'm also interested in the ventral hindwing white spots edged in dark brown, which Glassberg connects to the Nevada Skipper. I look forward to your comments.

Coordinator notes: Mike Fisher weighed in and put into words what we all were thinking, an interspecies pairing between a Pahaska male (right) and a Green female. these sorts of things do happen, though not often. It proves that it's not only humans, but even these two skippers have a hard time telling themselves apart. It is great to get an example on film, so to speak. I flipped a coin and decided to accept it as Pahaska. great pic!
