Observation notes: Mostly seen on Quercus chrysolepis , though did see one nectaring on Toyon. Location in Santa Cruz mountains directly in the San Andreas Fault zone. Mix of serpentine and Franciscan formation rock base at 2000 ft.. Mixed Oak woodland with Canyon Live Oak found here in abundance along with other oaks, including a few Tan Oaks and many Coast Live Oaks. Grasslands, Chaparral/Coastal scrub, and Douglas Fir/ Redwood forest habitats all found within a mile of this ridge top location. Sunny, clear skies, high 70's, with some coastal breezes. Thanks to the BOMONA folks who posted sightings in this area.
