Coordinator notes: Hayhurst's Scallopwing would have a more scalloped wing appearance, checkered fringes, and a different dorsal pattern. They also do not stray this far north. Erynnis baptisiae has been expanding its range northward, particularly with the spread of Crown Vetch, one of its acquired hostplants. It's been documented in the Ottawa area and southward since the early 2000s. The darker basal FW appearance and only subtle "frosting" on the FWs would favor this species over the other possibility, Erynnis lucilius (Columbine Duskywing). These two species can be notoriously hard to differentiate. -jmgesell
