Common Streaky-Skipper
Celotes nessus

Observation date: March 16, 2024
Submitted by: tjay13
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Although now I'm reading PEEC's guide and flights peak in April. Maybe these were just a bit early. Are there fieldmarks to differentiate C. limpia? There were quite a number of these bugs so surely C. nessus.

Coordinator notes: I agree it has to be Common Streaky; our earliest record is March 6, so yes, you are in the early part of its spring flight. C. limpia is known from west Texas but never reported from NM. I'm not aware of the diagnostic differences. The DNA folks have extracted a new sister look-alike species in S AZ: Celotes sabinus Grishin 2023, but not reported anywhere close to SW NM.
