Rockslide Checkerspot
Chlosyne whitneyi

Observation date: July 23, 2024
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: In a very large rockslide area - with all of the pikas.
Status: Resident
Verified by: mikefisher
Verified date: August 26, 2024
Coordinator notes: Most Rockslide Checkerspots do not have as much orange on the upperside but in the Flattops area...and lower altitude...they tend to be more brightly colored than the above timberline populations elsewhere...BTW the Flattops in Garfield County is the type locality for damoetus...and evidently genetics suggests that damoetus is a distinct species-level taxon and not related to Chlosyne whitneyi.
