Observation notes: 8900 ft, ~0.5 trail miles north along Pacific Coast Trail from Ebbetts Pass, at base of scree slope/rockslide. It flew down from top of slope and briefly nectared on a tall, yellow composite. It looked too large to be checkerspot, but the underwing pattern does not match any greater frits.
