Nessus sphinx
Amphion floridensis

Observation date: September 02, 2024
Submitted by: cncman
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Appeara to be mating behavior, the larger one was hovering around the bubbles in a crack in an ash tree, the two stripes on its tail are actually yellow.
Status: Resident
Verified by: jwileyrains
Verified date: September 03, 2024
Coordinator notes: This Nessus Sphinx (A. floridensis) was nectaring on the sap of the hackberry tree. I'm sure the Tawny Emperor butterfly (Asterocampoa clyton) to the left of A. floridensis in the first few photos was doing the same.
Checklist region(s): Harris County, Texas, United States
