Observation notes: Fresh female, perched on kinnikinnick in an open sandy meadow in mixed conifer and deciduous forest. The area used to be covered with Scotch broom, but it was removed by volunteers, including the observer, and has been maintained to keep the area clear of broom since the 1980's. Keeping the meadow free of broom has likely encouraged the growth of kinnikinnick and helped to protect the elfin population. Several individuals were present, and specimens were collected at the request of Andrew Warren.
