Observation notes: Very warm summer day (80+). Many were observed in grassy area near parking lot. Nearby open pine forest, sagebrush.

Coordinator notes: I have personally collected Cercyonis sthenele in that region but Cercyonis pegala ariane also occurs in the Mt. Shasta area. The sthenele in that area would be close to subspecies behrii noted by having multiple spots on the under hindwing. Near Mt. Ashland on Old Hwy. 99, sthenele and pegala can fly together.=Ken Davenport
