Dury's Metalmark
Apodemia duryi

Observation date: March 31, 2025
Submitted by: jamesvonloh
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Individual nectaring from Desert/Hairy-seed Bahia flowers growing behind a downed yucca which provided a windbreak. The site is on the west-facing footslope of Bishops Cap, northeast of Mesquite, NM, south of the Pena Blanca trailhead (my access point), and east of the Sierra Vista Trail. In this vicinity, to the roadside parking area, 3-5 additional low-flying butterflies appeared to be this species. The mid-day was warm, under full sun, and with a consistent breeze.
