Rocky Mountain Duskywing
Erynnis telemachus

Observation date: April 10, 2025
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I ran into this during an NMBMN route, and was trying to ID it to species level, but am torn. Perhaps Persius is less likely than Rocky-Mountain (this was in an oak woodland...not hilltopping) but am leaning toward Persius because of its size (somewhat small) and the very high prevalence of gray on the forewing. I was not able to spend the time to go after a dorsal shot (probably would have been unsuccessful anyway) which I know may have been helpful. There were a few duskywings out and about. Maybe it's best to leave this to "unidentified duskywing."

Coordinator notes: This is pretty early for persius, but perfect timing for Rocky Mountain. The small size can be attributed to this being a male, and perhaps a subpar moisture situation.
