Observation notes: The City of Boulder purchased the Windhover Ranch in June, 2011. On 7/6/2011 OSMP Staff Christian Nunes and Ryan Prioreschi searched areas of sedge wetlands for Two-spotted Skippers. None were found but several other butterflies were found. Of interest were at least 8 Sandhill Skippers. A photo of a male and a female is attached with this report. These skippers were found along a moist sedge swale and adjacent drier pasture. They were seen nectaring on Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and invasive Bird's-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus). Lots of chasing each other around in vigorous circles low to the ground.
