Observation notes: This caterpillar was found on a concrete bench at a local park in San Jose, Ca. It was a shaded area. The floor is very populated with many branches and lots of leaves. I did notice some pretty big sized ants around the benches.

Coordinator notes: Orgyia probably vetusta, but the "Orgyia vetusta complex, has in California at least three species for which the taxonomy remains somewhat uncertain" (from MPG).
