Coordinator notes: My first impression before I read the observation notes was that this was not the suggested id of Eudonia heterosalis, the wing pattern just did not look right. I believe this is the other suggested id, Scoparia basalis. In reviewing the photos on MPG and bugguide.net, I think the necks are similar and what you're seeing might be an artifact of the pose of the specimen. Here's a photo of Scoparia basalis with the neck pretty similar to the sighting, though the wing pattern is darker than the sighting, but still "in range" with it.
