Observation notes: Caterpillar is molting on a sunny day. In the photo it is on a dead Bitter Melon vine, but there are no other plants right near where it was besides cut weeds and grasses. Several yards away is a milkweed plant, and in the other direction our herb and vegetable garden.

Coordinator notes: There is some variability in color for this species. Here's a caterpillar on bugguide.net that looks similar to the one in this sighting.
