Lithophane bethunei (Grote & Robinson, 1868)
Family: Noctuidae
Subfamily: Cuculliinae
Identification: Forewing cream with tan and yellow shading. Orbicular and reniform spots and st. line yellowish; other lines represented by tiny black dots on veins. Gray shading between orbicular and reniform spots and below reniform spot; 2 terminal gray blotches. Hindwing cream with gray shading except at apex and fringe.
Wing Span: 3.2-3.9 cm.
Life History:
Flight: September-November; February-May.
Caterpillar Hosts: Apple, ash, choke cherry, crabapple, hickory, maple, oak, witch-hazel, and other trees. Larvae have been observed eating pupae of Eastern Tent Caterpillar (Macalosoma americanum).

Range: Nova Scotia to Washington, DC and Kentucky, west to Manitoba and Missouri. Also Florida.
